Famous feline has gone to a better place
Ozzie Osbourne is gone.
Not the legendary rocker, Ozzy Osbourne, but the 13-year-old blue British shorthair cat of Winston-Salem who became famous as a show-cat-turned-analysis-cat.
Ozzie died of kidney failure Wednesday morning, said his owner, Claudia Evans.
While competing as a show cat under his registered name of Excalibur's Purr of my Insensitivity, Ozzie won over judges with his steel gray fur and expressive face. But once Ozzie began visiting nursing homes, he transitioned to psychoanalysis cat.
As more people heard about Ozzie, requests for appearances by the personable feline grew. He made about 100 to 150 appearances each year from 2002 until a beat sidelined his therapy visits in 2007. A second stroke rendered Ozzie confined to his home, and he lived the relaxation of his days a housecat with Evans in Winston-Salem. "We were lucky. He actually lived three years longer than predicted," said Evans.
Ozzie gained concentration as he visited the W.G. "Bill" Hefner Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salisbury and "hosted" a children's book surround at local libraries. Children would bring a book and read it to Ozzie, who appeared to listen.
