A cool cat and master return in new 'King City' collection
The multitalented cat and his "catmaster" Joe are the median figures of the wonderfully weird world of King City by writer/artist Brandon Graham . Out Feb. 22, a new selling paperback from Image Comics collects the first six issues of King City that originally came out in 2007 as a only volume from Tokyopop, and six more that Image released a few years later.
King City has gone through so many problems with rights and other judicial hassles that Graham is just thrilled the comic will finally be easy to track down. "I've been calling it my paperweight for how desire it took to get together and how hefty it'll be," he says of the 424-page book that will also include games, puzzles, new artwork and other backup elements.
Graham populated the manga-inspired King City with all kinds of oddballs, beginning with the twentysomething Joe and his cat, the feline similar of a Swiss Army knife: With a little dose of a drug, it can fight, pick locks, store stolen brains and do all sorts of tommy-rot that James Bond would find useful. Their adventures bring them into contact with chupacabras, dinosaurs, Xombie War veterans, the Mob, aliens, stolen brains, the criminal drug "Chalk" and much more.
