A dozen Sonoma Valley women are showing off their lascivious side for the love of shelter pets.
Taking a note from the 2003 comedy “Calendar Girls,” these ladies dropped their dresses for a 2012 Wine Homeland Women calendar to benefit Pets Lifeline.
“It came out much more elegant than we were expecting,” said Nancy Monarch, executive director of Pets Lifeline, who can also be seen as Miss December.
King said it all began with the fad of longtime shelter volunteer Elfriede Whitcher, who was inspired by the British ladies of the Rylston and District Women’s Originate.
In 1999, the nonprofit group of ladies, ages 40 to 80, created a playfully semi-without a stitch on calendar to raise funds to buy comfortable furniture for a hospital waiting room, which inspired the award-sweet film “Calendar Girls” starring Helen Mirren. In its first decade, the calendar transmit raised nearly $2 million for leukemia research, according to the London Telegraph. Whitcher wanted to yield the idea to Wine Country.
